Peak 10 to Open Second Richmond Data Center

Managed hosting provider Peak 10 announced on Wednesday it has begun construction on its second enterprise-class data center in Richmond, Virginia.

The announcement follows the recent opening of Peak 10's second 10,000-square-feet data center in Norcross, Georgia.

The 13,500 square-foot data center is set to open later this year, and will bring Peak 10 Richmond's total footprint to nearly 30,000 square feet. The facility will be the company's 19th data center facility within its 10 US markets.

"The expansion of our Richmond operations is a direct result of high customer demand from enterprise companies stretching from Tidewater Virginia to Washington, D.C.," says Mark Wensell, Ph.D., the vice president and general manager of Peak 10 Richmond. "We continue to invest capital into our existing state-of-the-art facilities in addition to constructing new ones. This second Richmond facility will allow us to meet the current and future demand for our managed IT services throughout the Virginia business community."

The new Richmond data center will be designed with multiple levels of security, uninterruptible power, HVAC systems, fire suppression and around-the-clock monitoring and management.

The company says the new facility will be SAS70 Type II, PCI compliant and interconnected with its private network.

This gives customers the ability to access 17 data centers in nine other markets in implementing disaster recovery solutions.

The Richmond facility will undergo a formal commissioning process prior to customer installations to establish the "capability and reliability of mission critical infrastructure".

The data center build is made possible by Peak 10's recent $95 million credit facility expansion, which was established earlier this year to continue Peak 10's ongoing growth strategy, including investing in additional resources and capital.
