Singlehop Top-Ranked Web Hosting Company in 2010 Inc. 500

A handful of IT companies, including two Web hosting providers, have made the 2010 Inc. 500, an annual listing that ranks the top 500 fastest-growing private companies in the United States.

Web hosting providers SingleHop and SoftLayer Technologies both received high rankings on the list, coming in 47th and 155th positions, respectively.

Chicago-based SingleHop was the top-ranked company in the Web hosting industry, the third fastest-growing IT services firm, and the second highest ranked Chicago business.

The company's sales have grown by 3,895 percent in the last three years, earning revenue of $6 million in 2009.

Meanwhile, Plano, Texas-based SoftLayer saw a 1,795 percent growth in the past three years to earn $83.5 million in revenue for 2009.

Other notable IT companies that made the list include data storage provider Carbonite in 9th place, data center operator Involta in 40th, infrastructure services firm eSolution Architects in 235th, data storage and management firm Clearpath in 287th, IT services firm RTL Networks in 331th, and applications developer ELC Technologies in 400th.

In order to qualify for the Inc. 500 list, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by the first week of 2006 and demonstrate exceptional growth over three-year period.

They also had to be US-based, privately held, for profit, and independent as of December 31, 2009.
